That, right there, is why Turismo Carretera is absolute madness. On the weekend of October 4 and 5, 2025, the series rolled into San Nicolás for the twelfth round of the championship and the second leg of the Copa de Oro Río Uruguay Seguros. When the dust settled at the Autódromo Juan María Traverso, Agustín Canapino had not only secured his third consecutive triumph, but all but sealed his fifth TC crown in stunning fashion.
The early signs pointed elsewhere, though. Mariano Werner topped Saturday practice, but when qualifying rolled around, the speed evaporated and he slipped to 32nd, over a second off the pace. Enter Agustín Canapino. The Chevrolet Camaro pilot for Canning Motorsports didn't just take pole position; he shattered the circuit record with a blistering 1:25.779/1000 lap. The sheer pace of the machine left Facundo Chapur and Matías Rossi trailing 4 and 6 tenths behind respectively.
Sunday morning brought the preliminary heat races. Canapino controlled the initial battery alongside Nicolás Bonelli, pulling clear to win with two seconds of breathing room over Santiago Mangoni, who climbed past Bonelli for second. Yet, that initial heat wasn't the fastest of the bunch. Matías Rossi clocked a superior time in the third battery, setting up a heavyweight main event between Rossi and Canapino.
Rain made the track a slippery nightmare for the final. Rossi launched his Toyota Camry cleanly to keep the Camaro at bay at the lights, and drama struck on lap two when Canapino dipped a wheel into the dirt, allowing Chapur past. Fortunately for Canapino, Chapur lost control moments later, handing the position right back. Rossi stretched his legs out front, but a safety car on lap 6 wiped out the gap entirely.
What followed was pure, unadulterated racing history. With speed that eclipsed the rest of the field, Rossi and Canapino went toe-to-toe for the lead. Canapino probed every single inch of asphalt, while Rossi drove with magnificent defensive precision. The duel raged on, but the final 5 laps turned the intensity up to an unbearable level.
Finally, on lap 23 with just two tours remaining, Canapino made his decisive move. It was a classic, heavy-contact pass—a puro chapa chapa—that grabbed the lead and never let go. Claiming his fifth victory of the year, the Titan of Arrecifes extended his championship lead with a comfortable margin before officially sealing his fifth TC title at the end of 2025.
