A violent finish for Chase Elliott and Christopher Bell at Michigan

It was a truly terrifying sight at Michigan International Speedway this past Sunday. On Lap 148, just moments after a restart, Chase Elliott and Christopher Bell collided while fighting hard for the second position. The impact was immense, with both cars hitting the wall at nearly 200 mph. It was a violent sequence that saw flames erupt from the back of Bell's No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, while Elliott's No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet eventually careened into an inside tire barrier.

Thankfully, both drivers were able to exit their cars quickly and signal to safety crews that they were okay. Before heading to the care center, Elliott walked over to share an embrace with Bell. After being released, Elliott was characteristically honest, taking full responsibility for the incident: “It was totally my fault. I feel really bad for Bell, just taking him out.” He explained that his car got free as he pushed for position, leading to the unfortunate sequence of events. While Elliott was cleared, Joe Gibbs later noted he was waiting on further updates regarding Bell's wrist and ankle.
