AJ Allmendinger marks 500th NASCAR Cup Series start at Sonoma
AJ Allmendinger reached a significant career milestone this weekend, recording his 500th start in the NASCAR Cup Series at Sonoma Raceway. The 44-year-old, currently driving the No. 16 Chevrolet for Kaulig Racing, has been a consistent presence in the sport since his debut in 2007. Throughout his tenure, he has driven for various organizations, including Red Bull Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, and JTG Daugherty Racing, before finding a long-term home with Kaulig Racing.
Reflecting on his journey, Allmendinger noted that while he takes pride in his longevity and achievements—such as his road course victories at Watkins Glen, Indianapolis, and the Charlotte Roval—he remains focused on future performance. Currently under contract with Kaulig Racing through 2029, the California native finished 16th in Sunday’s event as he continues to push for a spot in the postseason. He expressed gratitude toward team owner Matt Kaulig and CEO Chris Rice for their ongoing partnership and support throughout this phase of his career.
