Alex Palou masterminds chaos in Detroit to secure fourth win
Alex Palou is simply on another level. The four-time champion took his No. 10 HRC Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to a stunning 3.0584-second victory at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, marking his fourth win in just eight races this season. It was an absolute masterclass in survival; while the field turned into a full-contact scramble, Palou stayed clinical, leading 71 of the 100 laps to secure the 23rd win of his career.
The race was a tactical chess match that almost spiraled out of control. Strategist Barry Wanser pulled the strings perfectly, opting to move Palou onto primary tires at the end of Lap 63. The move was pure genius—it kept Palou out of the crossfire when the cautions started flying. While pole-sitter Kyle Kirkwood drove a brilliant race in his No. 27 Sam's Club Honda for Andretti Global, he was ultimately left chasing shadows, even after forcing a nail-biting lockup from Palou on Lap 88.
Behind them, the chaos was relentless. Graham Rahal fought hard to put his No. 15 Fifth Third Bank Honda for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing on the final step of the podium, followed by Arrow McLaren’s Pato O'Ward and Christian Lundgaard. It was wild, it was messy, and through it all, Palou just kept building that championship gap, now at 62 points. As Palou put it, the team did an incredible job; it was tough, but that is exactly how you chase down another title.
