Alex Zanardi to be honored with return of lightning bolt on No. 10

Here is a stunning tribute to a true racing titan. DHL and Chip Ganassi Racing have teamed up to bring back the iconic lightning bolt livery on the No. 10 Honda for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, running from Sept. 4-6. This beautiful machine will wear the exact bolt that was made famous by none other than Alex Zanardi and the team's other legends during a golden era of four consecutive championships from 1996 to 1999.

That race on Sept. 6 falls on the exact 30th anniversary of "The Pass," the jaw-dropping, legendary move Zanardi pulled off at "The Corkscrew" turn complex on the very last lap to take victory in the final race of the year and secure the Rookie of the Year award. It also marks 30 years since Chip Ganassi Racing claimed its first championship with Zanardi's teammate, Jimmy Vasser, a monumental milestone that also marked Honda's first INDYCAR title.

Taking the wheel is four-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion and three-time Laguna Seca race winner Alex Palou. The No. 10 DHL Lightning Bolt Honda hits the track for the opening practice session on Friday, Sept. 4. Palou brings serious pedigree to Northern California, having won three of the last four years at the venue, including two consecutive victories. The Spaniard has stood on the podium in all five of his starts at Laguna Seca with Chip Ganassi Racing.

"I'm so excited to get the lightning bolt back on our car," Palou said. "We're racing in memory of Alex Zanardi. We're racing at Laguna, his place, his corner. And on top of that, it's the 30th anniversary of CGR's and Honda's first INDYCAR championship. So, we're putting everything together for the fans, for ourselves, as well. And hopefully it's a great race for the No. 10 DHL car."

Before heading to Laguna Seca, Palou holds a 91-point advantage in the championship standings as he arrives at this weekend’s doubleheader at the Milwaukee Mile. There, he and the No. 10 team will look to secure Chip Ganassi Racing a record-setting 18th INDYCAR championship.
