All the stories that got the Zandvoort paddock talking
Max Verstappen absolutely stole the show as the Formula 1 circus rolled back together following the summer break, dropping the massive news of a contract extension keeping him locked in with Red Bull all the way until the end of 2030. That alone would have dominated any normal Thursday, but the Zandvoort paddock was buzzing with plenty more drama ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix.
Now, look at the twist involving Liam Lawson. The man was literally just stepping off a plane on Monday after coming off a holiday when the call came through: Isack Hadjar was out with a wrist injury, and Lawson was needed to stand in for Red Bull this weekend.
It is an insane turn of events for the New Zealander, who has been driving out of his skin lately. He has scored points in six of the last seven Grands Prix, putting himself ninth in the standings as the clear best of the rest.
He certainly was not expecting a shot back at Red Bull this soon, having already contested two Grands Prix with the team last year before getting demoted. But Lawson knew the door was never fully closed, and right now, he is simply focused on getting the absolute most out of a good opportunity.
