Look at this. For the second time in just seven days, David Alonso has put his CFMOTO Azul Marino Aspar Team machine right at the front of the grid, taking pole position in an absolutely wild Moto2 qualifying session at the Dutch GP.
Beside the pacesetter, we have a stunning performance from Q1 graduate Alberto Ferrandez, who clinched a debut front row start in P2. Right alongside that Spaniard is his BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 teammate Izan Guevara.
Guevara currently sits P2 in the overall standings and has a massive opportunity to claw some points back on title race leader Manuel Gonzalez here in Assen. With Gonzalez launching down from P8, the #28 is in prime position to make things happen.
Things just never properly clicked for Gonzalez and Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP teammate Senna Agius after showing brilliant pace all weekend. Agius survived a massive moment on the exit of Turn 8 while pushing for an improved time, and the Australian will start from P7.
Fronting the second row is Daniel Muñoz of the Italtrans Racing Team. The #17 is another brilliant rider who successfully came through Q1. Sixth place belongs to Celestino Vietti of the HDR SpeedRS Team, and after the Italian rider's huge highside in Practice, that qualifying result was desperately needed for the man sitting P3 in the championship. Muñoz and Vietti ultimately sandwich Daniel Holgado of the CFMOTO Azul Marino Aspar Team on the second row.
A fascinating Moto2 battle awaits at Assen.
