Antonelli reflects on victory following retirement of teammate Russell

It is not every day you witness a four-race win streak, but Kimi Antonelli is making it look like business as usual. Following the Canadian Grand Prix, he now sits comfortably with a 43-point lead, but the victory in Montreal left the young driver feeling conflicted. It came at the cost of teammate George Russell, whose race ended in a puff of smoke at Turn 8 on lap 30 due to a power unit failure.

The battle before the retirement was simply wild. The two Mercedes machines were locked in a wheel-to-wheel scrap, trading the lead and pushing each other to the limit with lock-ups and off-track excursions. Antonelli was the first to admit the victory felt hollow given the intensity of the fight, noting it was 'not really the way I wanted to win'.

Looking ahead, Antonelli is refusing to get comfortable. Even with his significant cushion after five weekends, he recognizes the pace Russell showed throughout the event. With rivals from McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull circling, Antonelli knows he must continue raising the bar, starting with the challenge of Monaco.
