Armstrong gears up for first Rally1 outing at Rally Sweden

The FIA World Rally Championship shifts to Umeå next week for the second round of the season, marking the calendar's only pure snow rally. Competitors will tackle high-speed, technical stages lined with snowbanks, relying on Hankook studded tyres to navigate the frozen terrain.

Eamonn Armstrong heads to Sweden to test his skills in a Rally1 car for the first time, describing the event as an "ultimate playground" where drivers can lean on solid snowbanks to maintain momentum. The M-Sport pilot is no stranger to success in these conditions, having secured a narrow Junior WRC victory there in 2022 after a sustained battle with Lauri Joona.

Following a promising debut at Rallye Monte-Carlo last month—where he briefly ran as high as third overall before a final-day incident—Armstrong is focused on gaining mileage and comfort in the Rally1 machinery. While his Monte Carlo run ended in retirement, the performance underscored his potential, and he aims to apply those lessons as he takes on the unique challenge of Rally Sweden.
