Calle Carlberg establishes commanding lead at Junior WRC opener in Sweden

Calle Carlberg has built a substantial 43.7-second lead at the conclusion of Friday's stages at Rally Sweden. The Swedish driver, who transitioned to the world stage following his Junior ERC success, capitalized on a chaotic afternoon session that saw several contenders falter in the Västerbotten forests.

The battle for the lead shifted significantly during the fifth stage, where deepening ruts led to the retirements of both Ali Türkkan and Kerem Kazaz. Both drivers became stuck in snowbanks after similar errors at a junction, leaving Carlberg to manage the remainder of the day comfortably while securing multiple stage wins. Both retired drivers are expected to rejoin the field on Saturday.

Leevi Lassila currently holds second place after finding improved pace in the afternoon, while Raúl Hernández rounds out the provisional top three. Hernández moved into a podium position after Gil Membrado suffered a significant delay due to a broken wheel late in the day. In the WRC3 category, Matteo Fontana ended the day with a comfortable margin over Tymek Abramowski to lead the class.
