Carlos Sainz calls Monaco retirement borderline unacceptable

It was meant to be a weekend of progress for Williams, but Carlos Sainz saw his race—and his points—vanish in an instant at the Monaco Grand Prix. The Spaniard was sitting in 10th and looking at a third consecutive points finish before the Lap 70 restart turned into a disaster. Sainz was first tagged by Nico Hulkenberg’s Audi at Loews Hairpin, sending his machine into the barriers with terminal suspension damage.

He did not even make it home. After the contact with Hulkenberg—who received a 10-second penalty—a further collision with the Alpine of Franco Colapinto at Portier finished the job. Sainz didn't mince words, calling the over-optimistic driving from his rivals "borderline unacceptable." It is truly frustrating to see such a strong display of race pace ruined by others who seemed to lose all perspective at the restart.

Thankfully, Alex Albon managed to salvage the day for the team. Despite his own frustrations with a deployment issue and giving up a position to Arvid Lindblad, Albon clawed his way to P8. He admitted he was initially frustrated by the team's tactics, but seeing the result in the final classification, he called it his best weekend of the year so far.
