Denny Hamlin dominates at Michigan as the chaos hits the field

Denny Hamlin is operating on another level. For the second week running, the man put on a masterclass at the 2-mile Michigan International Speedway, carving his way from the back to the front. He claimed his 63rd career NASCAR Cup Series victory with a massive 11.110-second margin of victory, a result that ties him with Kyle Busch for ninth on the all-time list.

While Hamlin was untouchable, the rest of the field had to navigate 200 laps of pure, high-speed mayhem. Some, like the Team Penske trio of Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, and Austin Cindric, managed to survive the carnage to secure respectable finishes of 7th, 8th, and 11th, respectively. Bubba Wallace of 23XI Racing also showed serious grit, fighting through a Lap 83 restart wreck to cross the line in 3rd, while Kyle Larson kept his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in the top five despite his ongoing winless streak.

Unfortunately, for others, the day was a disaster. Championship leader Tyler Reddick saw his lead cut to 51 points after a Lap 83 multicar incident—triggered by an aggressive move from Carson Hocevar—forced him into a 35th-place finish, his first DNF of the season. Brad Keselowski’s hopes for a home-track win ended in the wall after contact with John Hunter Nemechek, and young Connor Zilisch’s rough introduction to the Cup Series continued, with the 19-year-old Trackhouse Racing driver suffering his third consecutive last-place finish after early spins.
