Denny Hamlin dominates at Pocono for a historic three-peat
It is official: the "Tricky Triangle" belongs to Denny Hamlin. In a display of pure tactical brilliance, the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran navigated a nail-biting fuel-saving dance to claim his eighth career win at Pocono Raceway. This victory is massive, not just for the track record, but because it marks the first time in his 21-year career that Hamlin has strung together three consecutive wins, following his recent triumphs at Nashville and Michigan.
He had to work for it, fending off the 23XI Racing Toyota of Tyler Reddick by a narrow 1.678 seconds. For Reddick, who currently leads the standings, the gap is now a razor-thin 19 points. It is the kind of pressure that defines a season, especially with only 10 races left before the field is set for the championship. Hamlin is now ninth on the all-time list with 64 wins, a staggering achievement for the 45-year-old Virginian.
The drama wasn't just at the front. Christopher Bell, Hamlin’s teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing, took a heroic gamble on fuel strategy while nursing a broken left wrist. It was a beautiful, desperate push that almost paid off, but he ultimately ran out of gas just as the white flag flew, leaving him to finish 26th. Meanwhile, William Byron brought his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet home in third, followed by a season-best performance from Legacy Motor Club’s John Hunter Nemechek, who spent an impressive 42 laps out front.
