Elfyn Evans leads Toyota sweep at Rally Sweden
Elfyn Evans moved to the top of the leaderboard during Saturday's action at Rally Sweden, establishing a 13.3-second cushion heading into the final day. After starting the morning trailing teammate Takamoto Katsuta, the Welshman set a blistering pace on the opening Vännäs test to overhaul the Japanese driver and control the remainder of the leg.
Katsuta, who is hunting his first WRC victory, struggled with a mysterious loss of grip throughout the afternoon, allowing Evans to maintain his advantage despite difficult conditions. Sami Pajari continued his impressive progression at the Rally1 level, anchoring a Toyota GR Yaris 1-2-3 lockout as he held a comfortable third place heading into Sunday.
Further down the order, Oliver Solberg moved up to fourth overall, while Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville and Esapekka Lappi faced a difficult day of searching for performance and rhythm on the degrading snow surfaces. The event concludes on Sunday with three final stages, including the Umeå power stage.
