Fourmaux left wanting more after Acropolis heartbreak
It is honestly difficult to process the sheer bad luck Adrien Fourmaux endured at the Acropolis Rally. The Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team pilot was absolutely flying, setting the pace on Friday morning and looking like a genuine contender to win the whole thing. He had the speed, he had the rhythm, but he simply could not escape the Greek gravel’s cruel nature.
It was a relentless cycle of frustration. Fourmaux faced a puncture on Friday, another on Saturday afternoon, and then two more on Sunday. He eventually finished seventh overall after a one-minute penalty dropped him from his original sixth-place finish. The irony is as painful as it gets: he found that when he pushed, he was safe, but the moment he backed off to manage his pace, the tires gave way. As he said, “I just realised that everywhere I was pushing, I had no puncture - nothing. Every time I started to have a look and be careful, bam, puncture.”
Despite the result, there is no denying the raw pace Fourmaux and his co-driver Alexandre Coria displayed in their i20 N Rally1. It was a beautiful display of speed that makes his final standing feel like a disaster. Still, looking ahead to the faster stages in Estonia and Finland, he remains focused on the positives. He proved he can fight at the front, and frankly, that is a performance worth remembering despite the points lost.
