Fourmaux takes command on challenging Friday morning in Portugal

Adrien Fourmaux moved to the front of the field during Friday morning’s loop at Rally Portugal, capitalizing on a strong tyre strategy to build a 7.7-second lead. Starting the day trailing overnight leader Oliver Solberg by 3.4 seconds, Fourmaux displayed consistent pace across the opening three stages to pull ahead of the pack.

Sami Pajari emerged as the morning's standout performer, climbing from sixth to second overall after claiming two consecutive stage wins. The battle for the remaining podium positions remains intense, with Sébastien Ogier, Thierry Neuville, and Solberg separated by less than two seconds. Only 9.9 seconds currently cover the top five drivers after six stages.

Competitors faced difficult conditions characterized by inconsistent grip, greasy patches, and loose stones. While Fourmaux maintained a steady pace to build his advantage, Solberg struggled with his car's feeling and an imperfect tyre selection, dropping to fifth. Meanwhile, Elfyn Evans, opening the road, leads the remainder of the field in sixth place.
