George Russell admits to a difficult Friday in Monaco

George Russell was blunt about the situation, admitting the opening day of the Monaco Grand Prix was "more challenging than we would have hoped." The Ferrari machines, piloted by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, are looking like the class of the field. Russell noted that Ferrari’s inherent DNA is perfectly suited for these demanding street circuits, a trend he claims has been evident for a decade. While Kimi Antonelli showed promise in the first practice session, the Silver Arrows are clearly playing catch-up to the Scuderia.

Deputy Team Principal Bradley Lord described the day as solid, citing a completed programme and productive set-up changes. Yet, the challenge remains balancing the car for those tight, slow corners without losing the rear. Whether Mercedes can bridge the gap before Saturday’s qualifying session remains the big question, but for now, Russell remains realistic about the task ahead.
