George Russell claims hard-fought victory at the Austrian Grand Prix

George Russell triumphed in the Austrian Grand Prix, successfully defending his lead to secure a vital win. Starting from pole position, the Mercedes driver maintained his composure throughout the 71-lap contest, ultimately crossing the finish line 1.611 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

Verstappen, who had recovered from a difficult qualifying session, pressured the race leader in the closing stages while simultaneously managing a late charge from Kimi Antonelli. The championship leader, Antonelli, claimed the final spot on the podium, finishing just 0.375 seconds behind Verstappen. This result sees Antonelli maintain a 40-point advantage at the top of the standings, while Russell’s victory promotes him to second in the title race.

Oscar Piastri finished fourth for McLaren, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Isack Hadjar. It was a challenging afternoon for others, as both Cadillac drivers retired early due to brake issues, and retirements also claimed Lance Stroll and Carlos Sainz. Racing Bulls rounded out the points with Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad finishing ninth and tenth respectively.
