George Russell identifies Ferrari as a rising threat after Barcelona

It was a tough pill to swallow at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. George Russell started from pole position and looked set for his first victory since Australia, only to be overtaken by Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton utilized a brilliant three-stop strategy for Ferrari to secure his first win with the team, leaving Russell to settle for second place.

It was a relief to see the podium again after the nightmares in Canada and Monaco, but the victory for Ferrari was eye-opening. Russell admitted the pace from his former teammate was "insane," noting that the recent upgrades package from Ferrari has made them a force to be reckoned with. While Russell managed to chip away at the title deficit to his retired teammate Kimi Antonelli, closing the gap to 50 points, the reality is that the Ferrari threat is growing.

Russell was gracious about the result, saying, “Firstly, huge congrats to [Hamilton] because I know how hard he works.” Even so, the Mercedes driver knows his team has work to do. After a solid start to his race, the final two stints proved difficult, and he is clearly wary of what is coming next. If the performance in Barcelona is any indication, the battle at the front is about to get much more intense.
