Greensmith finds positives despite challenging outing in Portugal
Gus Greensmith’s performance at the Rally Portugal was hampered by a string of mechanical issues that hindered his ability to secure a strong points finish. The Briton faced significant adversity on the opening day, including a turbocharger failure that forced him to navigate the gravel stages without full boost. Despite the technical deficit, Greensmith expressed satisfaction with his driving, noting that his pace remained competitive even under difficult circumstances.
The weekend's challenges continued as suspension damage, caused by an exposed tree root, eventually sidelined his car and prevented further progress. While he returned to secure several stage wins on Saturday, the arrival of heavy rain and muddy conditions made the remaining route treacherous. Greensmith managed to salvage eight points from the event, acknowledging that the struggles of his championship rivals helped mitigate the impact of his own difficulties.
Reflecting on the event, Greensmith highlighted that while his raw speed has shown improvement over the previous season, persistent reliability concerns remain the primary obstacle. He noted that despite the frustration of the weekend, the team is moving in the right direction. Having opted to skip the upcoming Rally Japan, the driver will return to WRC2 competition at the EKO Acropolis Rally Greece with a focus on securing a clean run.
