Greensmith holds narrow advantage following Safari Rally opener

Gus Greensmith leads the WRC2 class following the opening stages of Safari Rally Kenya. Debuting his Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, the Briton navigated difficult weather conditions to establish a 3.0-second lead over Diego Domínguez by the end of the day.

The event began with heavy rainfall that turned the Camp Moran test into a mud-filled challenge. Visibility proved to be a significant obstacle, with drivers like Fabrizio Zaldivar and Andreas Mikkelsen struggling due to failing washer systems and misted windshields. Despite these setbacks, Zaldivar set the initial pace before the conditions stabilized for the Mzabibu 1 test.

Following the second stage, Domínguez moved into second position, while Robert Virves ended the day in third, 8.6 seconds behind Greensmith. Although Greensmith encountered a rising water temperature issue, he successfully managed the mechanical concern to maintain his lead. Zaldivar and Mikkelsen currently round out the top five as the field prepares for Friday’s action.
