Hamilton tops the charts as Ferrari dominates in Monaco

It is not often you see the timesheets at the Principality read quite like this. Lewis Hamilton set the benchmark in FP2 for the Monaco Grand Prix, putting his car at the top with a 1m 13.026s lap on the soft compound. It was a beautiful, albeit aggressive, display of speed, even if it did involve some heart-stopping moments through the Swimming Pool section.

Ferrari stayed right on his tail, with Charles Leclerc slotting into second just over a tenth behind. Max Verstappen followed, showing the usual teeth of his Red Bull to round out the top three. The session was not without its drama; Lando Norris saw his afternoon come to an early halt at the Nouvelle Chicane, and a late red flag appeared when Sergio Perez’s cockpit filled with smoke.

Further down the order, the Mercedes machines of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell looked to be dancing on the edge, with Russell narrowly avoiding the barriers during a wild moment. It is exactly the kind of high-stakes, high-tension afternoon that makes Monaco the ultimate test of man and machine.
