Hankook introduces new soft gravel tyre for Safari Rally Kenya
Ahead of one of the World Rally Championship's most demanding events, Hankook has launched a new soft-specification gravel tyre, the Dynapro R213. Developed over the past year in collaboration with the FIA and rally manufacturers, the tyre aims to address driver feedback regarding compound compliance and the performance gap between hard and soft options.
While the external tread pattern remains consistent with previous versions, engineers have adjusted the internal construction and chemical makeup. The goal is to provide greater tyre movement and improved grip in lower temperatures or wet weather, addressing concerns that arose during the previous season.
Stephen Cho, representing Hankook, noted that reconnaissance reports suggest the Safari Rally Kenya will be even more challenging than last year. Persistent heavy rain has left roads muddy, exposing significant bedrock and hidden rocks that will put extreme pressure on the new equipment. Despite the brutal terrain, the company expects the increased compliance of the revised tyre to offer better feedback to crews tackling the difficult conditions.
