Hayu Yamakoshi takes maiden F3 pole in Spielberg
Hayu Yamakoshi has claimed his maiden pole position in the FIA Formula 3 Championship during qualifying at Spielberg. The Van Amersfoort Racing driver pursued a distinct strategy compared to his competitors, leveraging a clear track to set the fastest lap.
While other drivers remained in the pits after their initial runs, Yamakoshi returned to an empty circuit and posted a time of 1:21.730. He then returned to the pits, leaving the rest of the field to attempt to improve on his benchmark.
Championship leader Ugo Ugochukwu came closest to beating Yamakoshi's time, finishing second and just over a tenth behind. Tuukka Taponen secured third place, his best qualifying result of the season. Noah Stromsted qualified fourth, having led practice earlier in the day, with Freddie Slater rounding out the top five.
