Hyundai aims for recovery at EKO Acropolis Rally Greece
Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team is looking to reignite its championship campaign at the EKO Acropolis Rally Greece, the first of seven consecutive gravel events. Historically, the venue has been a stronghold for the Korean manufacturer, which has secured three victories in the last four editions of the rally.
Championship leader Elfyn Evans, driving for Toyota Gazoo Racing, enters the event with a 20-point cushion over Takamoto Katsuta. Despite his recent win at Rally Japan, Evans faces the challenge of opening the road, a task he expects to be demanding on the fresh gravel stages. Toyota maintains significant depth, entering a strong squad that includes Sébastien Ogier and Oliver Solberg alongside their primary contenders.
Hyundai is relying on Thierry Neuville and Adrien Fourmaux to close the gap in the standings, with both drivers highlighting the importance of a favorable starting position. Dani Sordo completes the team's three-car entry for the event. Meanwhile, M-Sport Ford has expanded its presence by fielding four Puma Rally1 cars, aiming to capitalize on the unpredictable nature of Greek terrain.
The 2026 iteration of the event features a significant route overhaul, with the rally base relocated to Loutraki. Spanning 323.31 competitive kilometers across Attica and the Peloponnese, over 75% of the stages are new to the competition, promising a fresh strategic test for all teams starting from Thursday's opening super special stage in Athens.
