Hyundai targets podium triple at Rally Sweden
Hyundai Motorsport is looking to rebound at Rally Sweden following a challenging season-opening performance in Monte Carlo. Sporting director Andrew Wheatley believes the team has made significant progress in developing the i20 N Rally1, specifically citing updates to the vehicle's front end and transmission designed to expand its operating window.
While Toyota dominated the podium in the opening round, Hyundai remains optimistic about its prospects on snow and gravel. Thierry Neuville noted that the team traditionally feels more competitive on these surfaces, and Hyundai expects to return to a three-car challenge for the podium positions in Sweden.
Esapekka Lappi will rejoin the team for the event, tasked with pushing for a top result rather than simply managing his pace. Lappi recently conducted snow testing in the i20 N, building on his previous success at the event, where the Korean manufacturer has historically shown strong form.
