Another Friday, another lap record utterly smashed to pieces. MotorLand Aragon was the latest canvas for this madness, and the man holding the brush was the in-form Ivan Ortola riding for QJMOTOR – Reverte – MSI. The Spaniard dropped an insane 1:49.791 to claim the top spot, narrowly beating Daniel Holgado of the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team by a razor-thin margin of 0.058s. It is the kind of breathtaking pace that makes you just sit back and appreciate the machine.
Behind the leading duo, Senna Agius planted his Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP machine into third place. The Australian stood alone as the only other rider capable of getting within four tenths of Ortola's new benchmark. Rounding out the rest of the top five ahead of sixth-fastest Manuel Gonzalez, who also represents Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP, were Alonso Lopez for ITALJET Gresini Moto2 and Celestino Vietti of the Folladore SpeedRS Team. Vietti had to work for it, too, snatching a direct Q2 ticket with a genuinely last-gasp lap.
Further down the order, the championship leader parked himself in that sixth spot mentioned earlier, while Manuel Gonzalez's chief title rival Izan Guevara, running with BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2, managed to complete the top 10. But Friday was not kind to everyone in the paddock.
Things turned pretty grim further back for Silverstone race winner Filip Salač of the OnlyFans American Racing Team down in P15, and David Alonso representing the CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team all the way back in P18. That leaves both riders facing a tough battle in Q1. Salač's misery was compounded very late in the session when Alex Escrig of the KLINT Racing Team pumped in a personal best to shove the Czech rider out of P14.
Now, all eyes turn to the serious business of qualifying. You will want to tune in from 13:40 local time (UTC +2) to see if Salač, Alonso, and the rest of the Q1 runners can claw their way back into the fight for pole position.
