Jan Solans leads WRC2 after opening day in Portugal
Jan Solans secured the top spot in the WRC2 standings during the opening day of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal. Driving a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, Solans took control during the second stage and maintained his lead through the Figueira da Foz super special to conclude the day ahead of the competition.
Teemu Suninen initially set the pace, but a difficult second stage—attributed to tire choice and mechanical concerns—dropped him to fifth overall. This shift allowed Yohan Rossel, who is debuting the Lancia Ypsilon HF Integrale Rally2 on gravel, to move into second place. Alejandro Cachón follows closely in third, trailing the Frenchman by just 0.2 seconds.
Andreas Mikkelsen holds fourth place, while Mille Johansson put in a notable performance to finish the day sixth in his Ford Fiesta Rally2, ahead of Gus Greensmith. Meanwhile, championship contender Roberto Daprà faces an uphill battle after a driveshaft issue left him outside the top ten.
