Kimi Antonelli reflects on early errors at the Austrian Grand Prix
Kimi Antonelli maintained his championship lead following a third-place finish at the Austrian Grand Prix, though the Mercedes driver expressed frustration over a difficult opening stint. Antonelli struggled with brake temperature issues and off-track excursions during the initial laps, which he admitted hindered his momentum.
Despite the early setbacks, Antonelli’s pace improved significantly following his pit stop. He eventually closed the gap to Max Verstappen, finishing just fractions of a second behind the Red Bull driver. Reflecting on the race, the Italian noted that he felt his late-race recovery arrived too late to mount a serious challenge for the top positions.
While this result marks his lowest finish of the season, Antonelli holds a 40-point lead in the standings over his teammate, George Russell. The team addressed the technical challenges throughout the event, and Antonelli acknowledged the need to refine his performance to minimize errors in future rounds.
