Lando Norris admits McLaren are in a pickle after British GP qualifying

It is not often you hear a driver admit they are in a pickle, but that is exactly where Lando Norris finds himself following qualifying for the British Grand Prix. Despite feeling he put together what he considered to be his best lap by half a second, the result was only good enough for P6. It is a reality check that is difficult to swallow for anyone watching.

Norris did not hold back when discussing the performance of his McLaren machine. He went as far as to describe the car as being slow in the straight and slow in every corner. When your equipment is lacking in every sector of the circuit, there is very little a driver can do to compensate.

By his own admission, the Briton described the entire qualifying effort as pretty poor. To have such a high expectation for a lap only to find yourself mid-pack is a bitter pill to take. In a field this tight, being a few tenths off the pace is the difference between fighting at the front and struggling to find space in the top ten.

Now, the team has to figure out how to bridge that gap before Sunday's race. It is a tall order, but given the blunt assessment from their driver, it is clear that something substantial needs to change if they want to salvage a result from the weekend.
