Lando Norris left searching for answers after Monaco heartbreak
It is honestly gut-wrenching to watch. Lando Norris, just one race after his gearbox-related DNF in Canada, saw his Monaco Grand Prix come to a premature end due to another car failure. He was mired in a struggle for P8 behind Pierre Gasly when the power issues began to creep in, eventually forcing the machine to crawl through the tunnel before he was ordered back to the pits for retirement. It is a cruel, persistent cycle of bad luck for a driver who is clearly pushing the limits.
This was supposed to be a milestone weekend for McLaren as they marked their 1000th Grand Prix, but the reality was a stark departure from their highs in Miami. Norris qualified P8, over half a second off Kimi Antonelli’s pole time, and the race simply refused to go his way. While he maintains faith in the team, the frustration is palpable: "I’m working hard, the team are working hard and we’re just not getting rewarded."
Thankfully, the garage had something to hold onto with Oscar Piastri, who managed a much cleaner run to finish P4. Despite a penalty for speeding in the pit lane—which he luckily served under a Safety Car—Piastri brought home 12 vital points for the team. It is a bittersweet result for McLaren, who now face the pressing task of finding more pace before the next round.
