Lando Norris prepares for a frantic fight in Barcelona
Lando Norris is staring down a difficult Sunday in Barcelona after qualifying fourth for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. He missed the top three by a heartbreaking 0.003s to Kimi Antonelli, a gap that could have been closed if not for a red flag caused by Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari hitting the barriers. It was an intense session, and Norris is under no illusions about the mountain he has to climb.
“We’re going to have to push like crazy,” Norris admitted, noting that McLaren faces a tall order to manage tyre degradation and stay in the fight. While he feels the car is capable, he suspects his rivals have a mechanical edge with more grip. The plan for Sunday is clear: maximize the result without overreaching, even if that means a desperate scramble to hold pace.
His teammate, Oscar Piastri, faces a similar uphill battle from seventh on the grid. After losing time in the final sector, he qualified four-tenths behind George Russell’s pole lap. Both McLaren drivers are wary of the heat and the demands of this circuit, with Piastri noting that the race will ultimately be decided by sustained car pace over a long stint.
