Lando Norris welcomes challenge as Max Verstappen links to McLaren emerge

The paddock at the Austrian Grand Prix has been buzzing with talk that Max Verstappen’s management held informal discussions with McLaren CEO Zak Brown. It is a bold scenario, especially considering the 28-year-old Dutchman is under contract with Red Bull until 2028, but it highlights the growing prestige of the papaya squad.

Lando Norris, currently locked into a multi-year deal alongside Oscar Piastri, took the speculation in stride. He pointed out that many drivers are interested in the team, though he did admit that the prospect of sharing a garage with a four-time World Champion is an interesting one. "I do believe I can beat any driver," Norris stated, noting that while many can pull off an incredible lap, Verstappen’s true strength lies in his relentless consistency across every session of a race weekend.

While McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella has previously moved to dismiss rumours of lineup changes—specifically addressing earlier chatter about Piastri potentially heading to Red Bull—the team is clearly riding high after securing back-to-back Constructors’ Championships in 2024 and 2025. For now, Norris remains focused on his current partnership, though he openly expressed that the opportunity to test his skills against the likes of Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, or Fernando Alonso is a challenge he would look forward to in the future.
