Laura Mueller discusses settling into F1 race engineer role at Haas

Laura Mueller has detailed her experience over the past 18 months as a Formula 1 race engineer for Haas, becoming the first woman to hold such a prominent position in the sport. Since stepping into the role in early 2025, Mueller has become accustomed to the demands and dynamics of F1 racing, navigating both successes and challenges. Her contributions were notably recognized earlier this year when a corner at the Australian Grand Prix was named in her honour.

Mueller transitioned into the race engineer position after previously working in Haas' simulator department and as a performance engineer, having joined the team in 2022. She explained that her prior experience in race engineering across different series and familiarity with the Haas team facilitated a smooth adaptation to her current responsibilities. This existing knowledge of team personnel and operations proved advantageous compared to joining a new organization.

Now in her second season working alongside driver Esteban Ocon, Mueller highlighted the importance of their first year together in building a working relationship.
