Layne Riggs snatches late victory in Nashville thriller
It was absolute madness at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday night. After dominating the opening 90 laps and sweeping the first two stages, 23-year-old Layne Riggs found himself fighting back from the fifth row late in the race. Thanks to a gutsy pit strategy from crew chief Dylan Capello 32 laps from the end, Riggs charged forward to pull off a stunning last-lap pass on Rajah Caruth, clinching the win by a margin of 0.468 seconds.
This was an emotional victory for Riggs, who dedicated the performance to the late Kyle Busch. The atmosphere was heavy, as Caruth was racing the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet intended for Busch, who passed away last Thursday at age 41. Caruth drove with incredible heart, leading 44 laps and coming agonizingly close to victory before the fresher tires on the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford proved too much to hold off in the final turns.
Behind the leaders, Chandler Smith gave his teammate the push he needed to secure the win while taking third place himself. Ross Chastain brought home fourth for Niece Motorsports, followed by Tyler Ankrum. With this result, Riggs now holds a 37-point lead in the championship standings over Kaden Honeycutt, capping off a wild night of racing on the concrete oval.
