Lewis Hamilton takes an emotional victory in Barcelona
Lewis Hamilton is a race winner in Ferrari red. It was a stunning performance in Barcelona, one that saw him gamble on an aggressive three-stop strategy and capitalize on a perfectly timed Virtual Safety Car. He crossed the line nearly 20 seconds clear of the field, looking every bit the champion we know, finally standing on that top step again.
It was a cruel day for those around him. Mercedes looked to have the upper hand with George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, but both suffered. Antonelli drove a fierce race to battle his teammate before a PU issue forced his retirement, leaving him in second place no longer. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc saw his podium charge vanish with a late power steering failure, marking his second consecutive DNF.
Lando Norris took advantage of the late-race drama to snatch the final spot on the podium. It wasn't the easiest day for McLaren, with Oscar Piastri struggling for grip throughout to finish fifth, but it keeps them in the hunt. Ferrari’s latest upgrades clearly shifted the balance, and with the paddock heading to Austria in a fortnight, the fight at the front is tighter than ever.
