Local heroes eye elusive breakthrough at Michigan International Speedway
It is finally time for the FireKeepers Casino 400, and for three drivers, this weekend at Michigan International Speedway carries an extra weight. Brad Keselowski of RFK Racing, Legacy Motor Club’s Erik Jones, and Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar are all competing on home soil, hunting for their first-ever Cup Series victory at the 2-mile track.
Brad Keselowski has a history here that would make anyone ache for a win, boasting 16 top-10 finishes across 28 races. Even with his pedigree as the 2012 series champion, he shares a frustrating record with Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott: three runner-up finishes at this track without standing on the top step of the podium. His RFK Racing team, however, is no stranger to success here, holding 14 historical wins at the circuit.
"When we go, it’s a win that would really mean a lot for me to get," said the 42-year-old Rochester Hills native. While Keselowski noted that he is the only champion among the local group, he is clearly focused on the job at hand, telling us he simply has to "be a champion in that race."
