Marc Marquez fights off Alex Marquez to claim Aragon sprint victory

MotorLand Aragon delivered a stunning shake up in the title fight as Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) secured his third Tissot Sprint win at the venue. He was followed home by Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP), with polesitter Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) completing the Saturday rostrum. That result leaves a gap of 29 points between Bezzecchi and teammate Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) at the top of the standings.

It was a good start from pole for Bezzecchi, but those initial metres of advantage were erased in the braking zone at Turn 1. Marc Marquez slammed his machine up the inside to take the lead, allowing Alex Marquez to immediately take advantage around the outside and grab P2. The leading trio locked together instantly, while a ferocious battle for fourth erupted right behind them featuring Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing), Raul Fernandez (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team), and Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing).

Acosta clawed his way to the front of that chasing group and pulled away, leaving Martin with work to do alongside Fernandez, Diogo Moreira (Pro Honda LCR), and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team). Martin dug in, fighting back past Acosta by Lap 3. Up front, Marc Marquez had the hammer down, keeping the gap hovering just under a second to Alex Marquez, with Bezzecchi lurking half a second off the rear wheel of the #73 machine.

Drama struck behind when Martin suffered a moment on Lap 5 around the final corner, ceding position to Acosta once again. Moreira held P6 while Fernandez slipped to P7, though a scrap between Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) and Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) offered the Trackhouse rider brief respite. Once Aldeguer cleared Zarco, a three-way fight for sixth exploded between Moreira, Aldeguer, and Fernandez over the final two laps.

Late in the race, Acosta closed ominously on the podium fight, leaving Martin behind to loom large in Bezzecchi's mirrors. Over 11 laps, however, there was no way through as Marc Marquez crossed the line to take the 12-point haul for his third Sprint win at the track. Alex Marquez finished second within around a second, and Bezzecchi just held on for third despite the late-race charge from Acosta.
