Marcus Armstrong finds his rhythm at Road America
It has been a rough weekend for Marcus Armstrong, who has been fighting off a flu-like illness while navigating the intense demands of Road America. Yet, despite the physical toll, the New Zealander managed to put his No. 66 Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb Agajanian Honda on the second row, qualifying third for Sunday’s 55-lap race. He admits he was barely functioning just yesterday, but heading into raceday, he is feeling much sharper.
His teammate, Felix Rosenqvist, will start right alongside him in fourth, completing a formidable second-row lockout for the team. Rosenqvist, who endured a bit of personal discomfort himself after having his wisdom teeth pulled during the break, pushed through to land in the Firestone Fast Six for the sixth time this season. It is a stunning turnaround for the duo, who also topped the practice charts on Friday.
Elsewhere, the AJ Foyt Racing camp has shown serious speed, though the grid will look different once penalties are applied. Santino Ferrucci missed out on the Firestone Fast Six by a tiny margin of .0241 of a second, though he will start 13th due to an engine change penalty. Meanwhile, rookie Caio Collet will start eighth, while Arrow McLaren’s Nolan Siegel will lead his team from the eighth starting position, hunting for his first career podium.
