Max Verstappen demands more from Red Bull after Canadian Grand Prix podium
It is not often you see a driver snatch a podium and immediately demand more, but that is exactly where Max Verstappen finds himself. After a 68-lap charge in Montreal, the four-time World Champion finished third, marking his best result of the season. It is a stunning turnaround for a man who started the weekend struggling in P6 during Qualifying.
Make no mistake, fortune played its part. While Verstappen ran second for much of the race, he lost the spot to the Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton in the closing stages. He was aided by the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri gambling on intermediate tyres that were never needed, and the Mercedes of George Russell retiring with a power unit issue. Still, Verstappen is right to call it a great result.
He admits the car lacked grip on the second stint on the medium tyres—a detail that clearly bothers him. Yet, compared to fighting in the midfield just weeks ago, the progress is undeniable. As he put it, "we made some really positive steps forward, but I also know we can do better and that's what we'll focus on."
