Mercedes locks out the front row in Canada
George Russell has done it again. Just like in the Sprint, the Mercedes man has snatched pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix, and he is bringing teammate Kimi Antonelli right along with him on the front row. It is a stunning display of speed, with the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri lining up directly behind them to hunt them down into Turn 1.
Things get interesting behind them as the grid finds some symmetry, or the lack of it. Lewis Hamilton starts fifth, while the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar sandwich the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, who sits eighth. It is brilliant to see Arvid Lindblad from Racing Bulls and our own Franco Colapinto, driving for Alpine, rounding out the top 10 with genuinely superb qualifying efforts.
Down at the back, it is a tough day for the local hero. Lance Stroll is set to start his home race from the pit lane after Aston Martin decided to swap out power unit elements on his machine. He had originally qualified 21st, but now he has a long road ahead of him.
