NASCAR stars swap the track for the ocean in new special
It is not often you see professional racers trade their steering wheels for tactical gear, but that is exactly what has happened in "NASCAR vs. Navy: The San Diego Mini Movie." Six Cup Series stars—Christopher Bell, Ryan Blaney, Chase Briscoe, Noah Gragson, Carson Hocevar, and Connor Zilisch—have taken on elite United States Navy SEALs in a series of challenges. It is a wild change of pace, seeing these guys trade their track-side intensity for a different kind of pressure at Naval Base Coronado.
Beyond the competition, the drivers got a rare look at the life of those who serve, with Blaney admitting the sheer scale of the aircraft and carriers on-site was enough to geeks him out. Bell echoed that excitement, noting the unique atmosphere awaiting the field when the racing actually begins. With the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, and the Cup Series all set to tackle the 3.4-mile street course this weekend, the intensity is only going to ramp up from here.
"I think it’s going to be a very unique experience, and something that’s gonna create really, really cool images, and something that we’re gonna cherish forever," Bell said. It is a fascinating bridge between two worlds, and if the commitment these drivers showed in the special is any indication, the weekend at the base should be something special.
