New Goodyear tire specifications arrive for Pocono race weekend

It is finally time for the Tricky Triangle, and the machines are getting a new set of shoes for the Great American Getaway 400. Goodyear is mixing things up, bringing a fresh right-side tire setup to the NASCAR Cup Series that blends last year’s Pennsylvania compound with the intermediate track package we have seen throughout the season.

They are not stopping there, though. The left-side tire is a new addition for this track, having already been tested at Michigan, Nashville, and Charlotte. As Rick Heinrich, the Goodyear NASCAR product manager, pointed out, Pocono remains arguably the most unique oval on the calendar, yet the philosophy behind these Goodyear Racing Eagle tires remains tied to that intermediate package.

For those wondering about the logistics, the teams have a strict allotment: 8 total sets for the Cup Series, split between 6 for the race, 1 for practice, and 1 for qualifying that carries over. Meanwhile, NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series teams will be running a different setup, featuring a right-side tire first introduced at Iowa Speedway and a left-side tire from May’s outing at Dover Motor Speedway.
