Norris finds the edge in Barcelona practice
It is honestly breathtaking to see just how razor-thin the margins have become. At the end of the second practice session in Barcelona, Lando Norris took the top spot for McLaren with a 1m 15.426s, a time that kept him just 0.009s clear of the rest. That is the kind of intensity that makes this sport so beautiful, especially when you consider that a mere 0.057s covered Norris, George Russell for Mercedes, and Oscar Piastri in the other McLaren.
Everything was in motion as all 22 drivers took to the track. We saw the chaos of a Virtual Safety Car when Liam Lawson’s Racing Bulls lost power at the pit exit, and plenty of drivers had to wrestle their machines. George Russell had a heart-in-mouth moment with a snap of oversteer through Turn 3, while Max Verstappen was audibly struggling with grip issues in his Red Bull. Even Lewis Hamilton felt something wasn't right at the rear of his car, finishing down in ninth.
It was a session of constant evolution. Oscar Piastri was the first to dip under the 1m 16s barrier on medium tyres, but the field caught up fast once the soft rubber came out for qualifying simulations. By the time the chequered flag flew, Norris held the lead, followed by Russell in second, Piastri in third, and Charles Leclerc in fourth. It is going to be an absolutely wild weekend if this is any indication of the pace we will see when it really counts.
