Norris signs new McLaren deal until end of 2030
Lando Norris has just made a massive statement about where his heart lies, locking in a contract extension that keeps him with McLaren until at least the end of 2030. Yes, that Lando Norris, the 2025 World Champion who has built his entire Formula 1 career with the British squad. His previous agreement was believed to be set to expire at the end of 2027, but the team acted decisively to secure his services for the long haul, complete with a multi-year option to commit even further down the line.
Let us look at the sheer weight of what he has already built here. The 26-year-old first walked through the doors in 2017 as a test and development driver before grabbing a race seat for 2019. Since then, he has amassed 13 Grand Prix victories, 18 pole positions, and 48 podiums. He has started 163 Grands Prix for the team, more than any other McLaren driver in history. As a wonderful bonus for his efforts, the squad is gifting him an MCL39, the exact machine he drove to his title-winning glory last season.
Reflecting on the announcement, Norris made his feelings clear: “McLaren is my home, and I’m very pleased to be signing a new contract to keep me with the team until at least 2030.” He added: “When I started this journey nine years ago, I was clear about the goals I wanted to achieve: to get McLaren back to the front and to win championships. We’ve achieved that goal, but we want more, we want to keep on winning, and we know as a team that we’re capable of achieving it. I can’t wait to get back in the car in Monza and I’m very excited about what the future holds for us, both over the rest of this season, and in the coming years.”
Leadership at the team is understandably ecstatic. McLaren CEO Zak Brown pointed out how vital the driver has been in steering the outfit into a new papaya era of success, helping them climb from the back of the grid to secure double consecutive constructors' titles in 2024 and 2025, alongside their first Drivers' Championship in 17 years. Meanwhile, McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella praised not just the raw speed and consistency, but the human being behind the visor, emphasizing the crucial continuity this partnership brings alongside teammate Oscar Piastri.
