Pascal Wehrlein takes pole-to-victory win in London to reclaim championship lead
What a masterclass in execution. Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein took his third win of the 2025/26 season in London from pole position, putting himself right back at the top of the Drivers’ World Championship with just one final race left to decide everything tomorrow.
Here’s the thing about this championship fight: it is razor-thin. Andretti’s Jake Dennis drove brilliantly to secure second at the chequered flag, leaving him sitting just five points behind Wehrlein in the standings. Meanwhile, Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans saw his race heavily impacted by the timing of a Full Course Yellow. The neutralisation, deployed to recover the Lola Yamaha ABT machine of Lucas di Grassi, played right into Wehrlein’s hands by falling at the exact right moment for his mandatory PIT BOOST stop. For Evans, who had already pitted, the timing dropped him down to eighth.
The arithmetic is now brutal for the chasing pack. Evans needs 22 points and both Dennis and Wehrlein to fail to score tomorrow if he wants to win his first drivers’ title in his final race as a Jaguar driver after 10 years.
“Very happy that's exactly what we needed to being competitive in the Free Practice sessions, but then also putting both cars on the first row and in quali and in the race executing our strategy,” Wehrlein said after the race.
Fortune smiled on the former Champion, though not quite on his garage neighbor. Nico Müller missed out on the fruits of that Full Course Yellow intervention, denying Porsche a shot at a double podium that would have boosted their Teams’ Championship ambitions. Wehrlein acknowledged the bittersweet nature of the race, praising a “great drive from [Nico]” and highlighting the importance of teamwork as the season reaches its climax at the London ExCeL.
