Pirelli's softest rubber heads for the intensity of the Red Bull Ring

The circus is moving to the Red Bull Ring for the eighth round of the season, and it is going to be a fascinating test of equipment. To handle the unique, fast, 'stop and go' nature of the Spielberg layout, Pirelli is bringing its softest range: the C3 as hard, C4 as medium, and C5 as soft. With the circuit sitting 660 metres above sea level, the thinner air means lower downforce, more tyre slip, and a real challenge for every machine on the grid.

Each driver will have two sets of hard, three sets of medium, and eight sets of soft tyres available. If a driver makes it to Q3, they earn an extra set of the soft compound for the effort. It is a tricky balance of thermal degradation and elevation changes—63 metres of it, to be exact. With the asphalt’s roughness generating heat and the downhill braking zones testing the front axle, it will be a high-stakes puzzle to see if the paddock leans toward the two-stop strategies we saw last year, or if the modern rubber forces a one-stop approach.
