Rally Islas Canarias reveals route for 50th anniversary edition in 2026
The 2026 Rally Islas Canarias will mark its 50th anniversary with a four-day itinerary that balances the event's rich history with fresh competitive challenges. Following its successful entry into the WRC calendar in 2025, the rally remains a premier test of skill on technical, abrasive volcanic asphalt.
Action begins on Thursday with a shakedown in Santa Brígida followed by a short sprint at the Circuito Islas Canarias. Friday and Saturday will see crews navigate mountain stages through regions including La Aldea, Mogán, and Tejeda, highlighted by the 28.90km Moya - Gáldar test. The schedule also includes a celebratory return to the Avenida de José Mesa y López in Las Palmas for a specialized stage around Santa Catalina Park.
The final day features a revised Sunday format introducing new routes at Ingenio - Valsequillo and the Santa Lucía - Agüimes Power Stage. Having evolved from its 1977 origins as Rally El Corte Inglés, the event continues to be a highlight of the tarmac season after Toyota Gazoo Racing swept the podium during last year's inaugural WRC appearance.
