Remembering Dennis Reinbold
It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of Dennis Reinbold. The Indianapolis-based owner, who was 65, died peacefully on June 13 surrounded by his family. For over 25 years, he was the heartbeat of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, an operation that remained a permanent fixture in the INDYCAR SERIES and the Indianapolis 500.
Reinbold founded the team in 1999, honoring the legacy of his grandfather, Floyd “Pop” Dreyer. From their instant success at the 2000 season opener with Robbie Buhl, to their consistent ability to put cars in the field—an incredible 53 for 53 in qualifying for the Indianapolis 500—Reinbold’s influence was profound. He built a team known for its tight-knit crew and an uncanny knack for being in the mix at the front of the pack, most recently leading in four of the last six Indianapolis 500 races.
His passion for the sport attracted a legendary roster of drivers, from Al Unser Jr. and Buddy Lazier to Simon Pagenaud and Ryan Hunter-Reay. Whether it was the high of a win or the heartbreak of fuel-related disappointment while leading with 31 laps to go in 2025, Reinbold treated the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” with a level of dedication that defined his life and his team.
