Sébastien Ogier claims victory at Rally Islas Canarias

Sébastien Ogier and co-driver Vincent Landais secured victory at Rally Islas Canarias, crossing the finish line in Las Palmas with a 19.9-second advantage over teammates Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin. Sami Pajari rounded out an all-Toyota podium, marking a historic weekend for Toyota Gazoo Racing as the manufacturer achieved its 300th WRC podium and a lockout of the top four positions.

The battle for the win had been poised for a dramatic finish until Oliver Solberg, who had closed the gap to 2.2 seconds, crashed into an armco barrier on the final day. Solberg and co-driver Elliott Edmondson escaped without injury, though the damage to their vehicle forced them to retire from the event. Ogier noted that while it was not the desired ending to the contest, he maintained a consistent rhythm throughout the weekend to secure the win.

With his second-place finish, Elfyn Evans moves to the top of the drivers' championship standings by two points over Takamoto Katsuta. Following the Toyota sweep, Adrien Fourmaux led the Hyundai charge in fifth place. The WRC season continues with its sixth round at the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, scheduled for 7-10 May.
